It was August of 2020. My husband had died a year before and the pandemic was in full tilt. Needless to say, I wasn’t too enthusiastic about anything at that time. 😔
I was listening to a podcast where I heard Teri Ijeoma tell the story of how she went from being an Assistant Principal in a toxic environment, to making $300 a day in the stock market, to now making millions.
Referring to her work in the school, Teri assumed that everyone goes through that, that that’s what life was going to be like. But then her world shifted. She said, “I had a friend pass away, he was 31 years old, he had just had a one-year-old, and he passed away from strep throat. You’re not supposed to die from strep throat.
“When that happened, I realized life is too short. And what if something like that happened to me and I died today at this stupid job that people don’t care about me?”
She realized she needed an exit strategy from her toxic work environment and that’s when she focused on trading.
Her whole thing was “trade and travel”—she wanted to make enough money from trading to travel the world. 🌎
The more she described trading, the more I thought it might be right up my alley.
- You don’t have to sell anything
- You don’t have to go to an office
- You don’t have to talk to anyone
- You don’t even have to get dressed
To me, all of this equaled freedom and I’d been preaching that for my whole career as a coach.
I was in a couple of MasterMind groups at the time that were focused on building your team and growing your business, but the truth was, I didn’t care about any of that. A lot of that work constantly reminded me of Sean and what we had been creating together. Today, I can smile at those memories, but at that time, I was still wading through grief.
So I started following Teri on social and ended up signing up for her trading course in December. This was maybe the most important $5,000 investment I’ve made because it started a whole new trajectory in my life.
To be clear, I had zero background in finance and I’d never even considered trading until listening to that podcast. I studied theology, psychology, and creative writing in school, not anything to do with numbers. 😂
I traded in simulation for a month and decided that once the new year hit, I was going live.
On January 4th, 2021, I entered my first live trade. (I was terrified!) 😱 On January 6th, I exited with $38.40 profit. I was in business!
Then on January 25th, I joined Teri’s “$1,000 in a Day Club” from a $1,110 trade. (Beginner’s luck.) 🍀

I proceeded to lose it all (and then some) a couple of weeks later, but I was hooked. 🪝
One of the things I love about trading is the equality of the financial markets. What doesn’t matter in this industry: your skin color, your gender, your sexuality, or your age. What does matter is your ability to think.
In his book, The New Trading for a Living, Dr. Alexander Elder said, “I had known nothing about the stock market, and the idea of making money by thinking gripped me.” 🧠 The same was true for me.
Just three years after my first trade, I’m now trading a fund and I still feel like this is only the beginning.
Trading is definitely not for everyone. It takes a level of control and discipline that I paid a lot to learn over the last few years. But it’s an ocean of opportunity for those who want to learn.
I wanted to let you know that Teri is hosting a Take Your First Trade Challenge that starts tomorrow.
Doors close for General Admission at 11:59 PM Pacific TONIGHT!
This isn’t your average challenge because Teri will show you exactly what steps to take and in what order so you can take your first trade!
This is a 5-day masterclass to learn how to invest for less than $100 and I can’t recommend it any more highly.
Remember, I didn’t have any special training or education in trading before Teri’s class. I’ve always had a really big financial goal, and for me, trading is turning out to be a better vehicle to get there than business. Lucra is still alive and well, I’m still coaching clients and teaching classes, but trading added the spark that I needed a few years ago. ✨
Even if trading doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, I encourage you to try something new. It could be the pathway that leads you to your dreams.
